Michael Sesemann, DDS took an unexpected approach to his introduction as the new AACD president. During the Celebration of Excellence gala, Michael Sesemann, DDS performed the Haka, a Polynesian cultural tribal dance. The Haka was the perfect fit to help energize every facet of the Academy for the year ahead.
The Haka is best known in its most aggressive form: The Ka Mate War Dance. Anciently, warriors used the Ka Mate to prepare for a battle. The dance helped to focus their strength, proclaim their powers, celebrate the triumph of life over death, and a new beginning. The Haka pays homage to the spirits that have passed, who had paved the way for those in the present. It calls for blessings and courage to those that will lead the new era.
