AACD 2014 Attracts 1,700 Dental Professionals to Comprehensive Hands-On Workshops, Lectures
Academy launches “Smile Story Contest” to award five smile makeovers

ORLANDO (5/8/14)—With an estimated 1,700 dental professionals in attendance, AACD 2014, the 30th anniversary scientific session of the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry (AACD), was a huge success. The meeting featured live dentistry, hands-on workshops and lectures, and launched a new consumer awareness initiative that will award five lucky patients smile makeovers.

During AACD 2014, Dr. Bill Dorfman, an AACD Accredited Fellow and celebrity dentist, announced “The Smile Story Contest,” AACD’s consumer awareness initiative, which will educate the public about the benefits of cosmetic dentistry and the importance of being treated by an AACD Member Dentist. The contest, sponsored by Ivoclar Vivadent’s E.max product, will award up to five lucky patients smile makeovers from AACD Member Dentists and Laboratory Technicians.

The meeting also offered attendees live dentistry demonstrations, an AACD first; hands-on lectures and workshops featuring headliners like Drs. Newton Fahl, Sonia Leizy, Brahm Miller, Dennis Wells, William Dickerson, and John Cranham; the AACD Experience, which offered attendees a space to learn about the AACD newest benefits and the AACD Accreditation process; a Celebration of Excellence gala honoring the AACD Accreditation Class of 2014 and the “Evy,” the AACD’s Celebration of Excellence Award. The “Evy” sculpture was created by the late Dr. Jeffrey Golub-Evans, an AACD past president.

Accredited Member, Dr. James Hastings, DDS, of Placerville, California, was installed as president during the Annual Membership Meeting, while Joyce Bassett, DDS, AACD Accredited Fellow, will serve as president-elect and Chiann Fan Gibson, DMD, Accredited Member, will serve the Academy as vice-president.

Attendees also donated to and enjoyed several fundraising activities benefiting the AACD Charitable Foundation, Give Back a Smile (GBAS). A silent auction in the AACD Exhibit Hall and a GBAS Lawn Party raised money to help survivors of domestic violence who have sustained injuries to the mouth.
