Researchers identify 7 parameters to assess dentofacial aesthetics

A team of German researchers has identified seven quantifiable parameters that can be used for the assessment of dentofacial aesthetics, according to a recent article in Dr.Bicuspid. Through their review, the authors identified seven parameters that are sufficiently and reasonably quantifiable: the smile line, lip line, incisal offset, location of dental and facial midline, incisor angulations and width-to-height ratios of the maxillary anterior teeth, gingival contour, and root coverage and papilla height. According to the third annual Crest and Oral B Great Canadian Smile Survey, it is! Canadians ranked the smile as the most important attribute when determining attractiveness in others, more than twice as important as physical fitness. The survey also noted that while Canadians place great importance on the value of a healthy-looking smile only 30 per cent follow the dentist-recommended at home oral care routine of brushing, flossing and rinsing.
