Instagram 101 for Cosmetic Dentists

July 20, 2020 by AACD Executive Office

What is Instagram?

Instagram is a social network similar to Twitter and Facebook. Instagram's main focus is posting and liking photos. People use their photos to connect with friends, strangers, and now more than ever, businesses. Instagram is a platform where people can share their lives and interests through photos, while also getting a look into the lives of others.

Why Should A Cosmetic Dentist Use Instagram?

Why would your patients care about your practice Instagram page? Patients everywhere are looking for “real connections” to the businesses they support in the same way they look for connections with family members and friends. Today's patient no longer believes or trusts traditional advertising. Patients choose dental practice's that they connect with on a human level. A cosmetic dental Instagram page is a powerful way to make these kind of human and personal connections with your patients, and potential patients. There are dentist influencers on Instagram with thousands of followers because of the real and raw glimpse their followers get into their dental practices.

How You Can Market Your Dental Practice On Instagram

Here are three trends in Instagram marketing they are (in no particular order):

  1. Sharing Behind The Scenes: We’ve seen this approach in the music industry where bands share a coveted “backstage pass” view. You might be surprised at how interested patients are to see a behind-the-scenes perspective.

  2. Include Your Patients: Share photos of your patients on Instagram and give them some recognition. Be sure to tag them! And, get permission.

  3. Run A Photo Sharing Contest: Hashtags make running a photo contest easy! Pick a unique hashtag and ask your patients to share photos with that hashtag. Then pick a random photo and reward them for participating. If you need a little help check out these awesome dental contest ideas.
